APSA 2017

Hello Japan Political Studies Group members,

I want to tell you about our plans for APSA in San Francisco at the end of August.  On Friday, September 1 from 6:30pm until 7:30pm in the Westin's Sussex Room, we will have our business meeting.  That meeting will include a roundtable discussion of "Japan in International Law," featuring Saadia PekkanenChristina Davis, and Kimiko Kuga.  In addition, please continue to consider people that might enjoy being the co-leader of the JPSG with me going forward.

After our meeting, all interested folks are invited to head to a nearby restaurant for no-host dinner and drinks.  This event is always a lot of fun; it is a chance to catch up with old friends and meet new friends who are interested in Japanese politics.  If you are interested in this dinner/drinks event and think that it is likely you will attend (in other words, that there is a better than 75% chance that you will attend), please let me know by clicking here by Friday, August 18.

The JPSG gets to sponsor one panel at APSA each year.  This year, the panel is "Transforming Japanese Politics: Institutional Change and Changes in Government."  It will feature presentations by Hajime Kidera, Harukata Takenaka, Yosuke Sunahara, and Rieko Kage.  Masahiro Yamada is the chair, and the discussants are Phillip Y. Lipscy and T.J. Pempel.  That panel will be on Friday, September 1, from 4:00pm-5:30pm.
